Hebrew Without Fear: Haifa’s Largest Conversation Club for New Immigrants Continues Its Work

Hebrew is not just a language. For many new immigrants, it is a barrier — a fear of making mistakes, awkwardness in the most ordinary situations, from a store to a job interview.

Hebrew is not just a language. For many new immigrants, it is a barrier — a fear of making mistakes, awkwardness in the most ordinary situations, from a store to a job interview.

That is why the NGO “Youth for Haifa” has been running a Hebrew conversation club for over a year and a half — a warm and safe space where people can speak without fear.

  1. Haifa, Ha-Rav Ohana 4
  2. Every Monday at 18:30
  3. Participation: free

Each meeting brings together 15–40 participants: students, parents, professionals — people who have been in the country for a few months or many years, but who finally want to start speaking freely.

This is not a grammar lesson. It is a live conversation in small groups by level with native speakers. You can make mistakes, search for words, laugh, and gradually feel your confidence grow.

After a few weeks, participants begin to speak more boldly. After a couple of months, they can comfortably maintain a conversation.

And most importantly, they find friends and their own community in the city.

We continue our meetings and are happy to welcome new participants.

If you or your friends want to overcome the language barrier — come join us. Sometimes one meeting really can change a lot.
