A temporary Teudat Zehut is a temporary Israeli identity document issued to citizens and new immigrants before they receive their permanent biometric ID card.
This document confirms a person’s identity and allows access to most government and everyday services.
A temporary Teudat Zehut is commonly issued to:
- new immigrants after completing their initial status process;
- citizens waiting for their permanent ID card;
- individuals replacing a lost or expired document.
The document includes the holder’s main personal details and is issued for a limited period of time. Despite its temporary status, it can be used to open a bank account, register for healthcare services, sign agreements, and handle many daily administrative tasks.
Once all procedures with the Israeli Ministry of Interior are completed, the holder receives a permanent biometric Teudat Zehut, which becomes the primary identity document for Israeli citizens.
